beggar

like a tea kettle on a hot stove,

the scolding hot water caresses my skin,

melting away my flesh

until i’m nothing but bone.

i strum my ribs like a xylophone,

collecting change in a hat

on the side of a busy street.

begging for someone to see

the music in my tragedy.
